Vukovar Children Massacre refers to the killing of 264 Croatian civilians, including many children, by Serbian paramilitary forces during the Croatian War of Independence in November 1991. The mass killing occurred in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar, which had been under siege by Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and Serbian forces for over three months.
In the aftermath of the takeover of Vukovar, Serbian paramilitary forces conducted a campaign of massacre and ethnic cleansing against Croatian civilians. Scores of bodies, including those of children, were discovered in mass graves around the town.
The Vukovar Children Massacre became one of the most notorious war crimes of the conflict. It was condemned by the international community and led to the establishment of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to prosecute war crimes committed during the war. Several individuals were convicted of crimes related to the Vukovar massacre and were sentenced to long prison terms by the ICTY.
